Meet Your Neighbour: Bishop Consignment

Are you on the hunt for your next favourite garment or accessory to spice up your wardrobe? Check out Bishop Consignment, a curated secondhand boutique for women in the heart of downtown Collingwood.  Owned and operated by mother and daughter Susan and Nicole Bishop, they sell and consign very gently used garments, accessories, and footwear in excellent condition.

“We want to have something for everyone and everyone’s budget because for us style and fashion isn’t just about a label, you can easily pair a Chanel jacket with a pair of H&M jeans,” explains Susan.

“Fashion is different than style.  We want to amass a selection of great pieces.  Great pieces don’t necessarily equate to recognizable brands.  We have a lot of high-end European brands that might not be known here,” adds Nicole. “Why not give a second life to clothing?  We talk a lot about the ‘slow fashion movement’ and just because you no longer enjoy a piece of clothing doesn’t mean someone else won’t,” she continues.

Nicole was born and raised in Collingwood and both mother and daughter very much appreciate being business owners in their hometown. “Downtown Collingwood is such a unique place to own a business.  We have such a supportive entrepreneurial community here and other small business owners go out of their way to support one another which I think is key to success,” says Susan. “Nicole and I work very well together, we have different strengths and complimentary skillsets, but most importantly, we trust and respect each other. We live in a kind and supportive community and that is heartwarming.  When you finish your workday, you can hang out by the water, go golfing and so on.  Collingwood is great for finding that balance between work and play.”

When you walk into Bishop Consignment, you’ll notice that the inventory is not sorted by size, it’s grouped by colour and type of garment and if you’re looking for something size specific, just let them know because they can keep that in mind when they’re curating clothing.

If you’re interested in putting some of your gently used clothing on consignment at Bishop, you don’t need an appointment, you can just go in with your items and they will make an assessment.  They research every piece of clothing to price it accordingly and you have a choice if you’d like store credit or a cash payout. If your items don’t sell after three months, you can either pick them up or they will be donated to a worthy cause.
