About the Collingwood Downtown BIA

Collingwood Downtown is a Municipal Local Board established for the main purpose of revitalizing the central business district of the Town of Collingwood.

We are designated as a Business Improvement Area (BIA) through the Ontario Municipal Act and a town of Collingwood bylaw originally enacted in 1977.

In 2004, an expansion process was undertaken and increased the original area of the BIA to mirror the core area that is designated provincially as an historic district. A further expansion was completed in 2016, which increased the BIA area to include the new waterfront commercial development.

Collingwood Downtown is governed by volunteer Board of Directors consisting of eight members elected from the Downtown business community and property owners and a council representative appointed by Council.

The election is conducted by ballot during the municipal election year, and the results are then forwarded to council for appointment.

The association is funded by a levy placed on the property taxes of each owner within the designated boundaries. The budget is presented to the general membership each year for discussion, with final approval by Council.

Widespread and continuing support from the local businesses and the surrounding community is essential to the success of the downtown. Collingwood Downtown welcomes volunteer, business and community participation in all areas of the association. We have a number of committees that would benefit greatly from your input. Please feel free to call the office at 445-5595, or contact one of the directors.
